Internet Service Provider

Posted on Monday, June 21st, 2010

The PPCIT endorsed contracting with an internet service provider (ISP) to provide access in addition to the modem pool for off campus students and faculty this fall. Access might eventually be extended to other groups, such as parents and alumni. The committee noted that a number of the library services are based on ip addresses, however, and some fees for services are based on a limited number of ip-addresses. The possibility of establishing a UNI ip address through the ISP should be a consideration in the rfp. While there are no current plans to expand the modem pool, the committee recommended exploration of the possibility of leasing some modems to relieve existing congestion until an ISP can be contracted.
