UNI Announces Gmail for Students

Posted on Thursday, August 25th, 2011

UNI CIO Shashi Kaparthi is pleased to announce that UNI will be moving all faculty, staff, and students to UNI Gmail and Google Applications for Education (Google Apps) during the fall of 2011. This change offers UNI a comprehensive and evolving set of collaboration and communication tools that enhance both instruction and campus operations. UNI Gmail and Google Apps offers easy-to-use tools and significantly increased storage at a fraction of the cost the University would have incurred otherwise. This fall ITS will focus on migrating all users from the current UNI Email system to UNI Gmail. Other features of Google Apps will be enabled and promoted throughout the year.

ITS has been migrating new and existing students to UNI Gmail and Google Apps since late spring. We now have over half of our student body using these tools. The process for migrating is simple; it will move all of your existing email, and will normally complete within 24 hours. Initiate this migration between now and October 1, 2011 to guarantee that your account is moved at your convenience.

Here is the timetable for student migration.

Aug. 12, 2011 Students enrolled for Fall 2011 encouraged to initiate migration.

Sept. 30, 2011 Last day to initiate migration.

Oct. 1, 2011 ITS will migrate all remaining student accounts.
