Information Technology In Person Support Procedures During COVID

Information Technology (IT) welcomes you back for the Fall 2020 semester! This fall looks a little different than previous years due to the COVID 19 public health situation. University faculty, staff, and administration worked tirelessly over the summer to ensure a safe and healthy experience this semester for all UNI students and employees. IT is no exception and has implemented new safeguards to protect the health of those we serve. The following details some of the measures we are taking.

Students

The IT Service Desk remains open for walk in help with your computer, tablet, smartphone, or University software and services. We’ve taken precautions there to ensure social distancing among our visitors and provide wipes for both our staff and our customers to wipe down their electronic devices to ensure they can be disinfected. 

Of course if you don’t feel comfortable visiting in person you can still always call us at (319) 273-5555, use the chat feature on the IT website to start a chat support session, or submit a request for help through Service Hub by visiting https://servicehub.uni.edu. 

Faculty and Staff

For faculty and staff, Service Hub remains the safest, fastest, and easiest way to get a hold of your technical support staff. Submit your request for help and we’ll quickly have eyes on your issue. You may also contact the IT Service Desk at 3-5555 from on campus ((319) 273-5555) or use the chat support function on the IT website.

Please note: IT support staff will first and foremost use all available remote support tools in order to solve your issue. If during the course of troubleshooting it becomes clear that an in-person visit to your device will be necessary, we may choose one of three options:

  1. Ask you to bring your device to a contact-less, secure location for us to pick up and diagnose.
  2. Ask to schedule a time where you will not be present and they can work on your device in your office.
  3. If you must be present during the appointment IT staff will ask you to ensure a 6’ social distancing precaution and wear a mask (even if in your own office) while they are there.

Please know that we care both about solving your technical issue and about your health and well being. We’ll work hard to balance these things to the best of our ability as we diligently work to ensure a smooth experience for both students and employees!
