Melanie Abbas received her BA in Computer Science with a Math Minor in May 1989 , an MS in Computer Science in Dec 1998 and a Doctorate of Technology degree in August 2014.
Melanie Abbas joined ITS-IS in 1999 after spending 7 years working in other departments at UNI. From 1992 through 1999, she held the positions of Computer Support Specialist in the College of Business and College of Natural Sciences.
She was a member of the Database and Application Administration team from 1999-2005.
From July 2005 until May 2016, she managed a staff of 5 full-time programmers. Her team was responsible for the Oracle E-Business Suite Applications at UNI and all programming used to interact with that system.
Those systems include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Benefits, Budget, Cash Management, FAMIS, General Ledger, Grant Accounting, Human Resources, iProcurement, Payroll, Personnel Action Form(PAF), ProTrav, Purchasing, Student Employment Authorization Form (SEAF), Timecards, plus several custom web applications.
In May 2016, Melanie accepted her current position as Director of ITS Educational Technology.
On occasion, Melanie also teaches courses across campus in the areas of computing, networking, and project management.
